1776 Boat Building Tools

August 9 , 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

Free

Come learn about the types of tools that would have been used to build the American fleet at the start of the Revolutionary War! Learn the basics of the intricate process used to hone trees into boards and the tools used to build and sail boats back in 1776. You’ll also get to try your hand at the saws, adzes, and drawknives that were used to cut the wood and perfect its shape.

Accessibility: This free, drop-in program will be held in the casting shed on the Museum lawn, accessible by traversing a flat grassy area. Grip strength required to safely operate tools varies depending on the item, and assistance is available. If you have questions or requests regarding the accessibility of this program, please contact us at campcounselor@lcmm.org.
