Is It Cyanobacteria?

A view of a large lake called Lake Champlain with blue skies and mountains in the distance

August 7 , 10:30 am 11:30 am

Ever wondered if your local pond or lake was safe for recreation? Cyanobacteria, sometimes referred to as blue-green algae, is naturally found in water and under the right conditions, can form large blooms that release toxins into the water.

At the Maritime Museum, we test for cyanobacteria every week to make sure our harbor is ready for boating, swimming, and fishing. Join us in North Harbor to learn what to look for and help keep you and your pets safe. A demonstration of how to test the water and determine if cyanobacteria is present will be shown with information on how you can try it at home!
